Bleaching Powder Uses at Home

There are many uses of bleaching powder in daily life. Some of them are below:

  1. Bleaching powder is used to remove stains from fabrics or different surfaces at home.
  2. You can use it to clean old jewelry items or steel/metals. Use bleaching powder with a bit of dishwashing detergent in warm water and clean away the dust of old things at home to get cleaned items.
  3. Rub some bleaching powder on the strains of clothes or carpets, and they will vanish.
  4. Spray the bleaching powder solution with equal parts water on tiles or marble floors and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Then rinse off to leave the surface clean and shining.
  5. Bleaching powder is used to make the surface of the glass dishware clean and shiny.
  6. It is also a disinfectant for cleaning various surfaces and places in your home.
  7. It can help in removing the weeds in your walkway or gardens. Just pour some undiluted bleach on the weeds, which you can release after 2-3 days.
  8. One can also clean or sanitize garden or kitchen tools with bleaching powder. Dry the kitchen tools in sunlight to prevent rusting, or add a few drops of oil to the devices.
  9. To remove the germs from the plastic furniture, use bleach.
  10.  Bleaching powder helps in cleaning the garbage bins.

What precautions should we take while using bleaching powder?

Bleaching powder is a chemical substance that can affect the user. These are-

  1. Don't use bleaching powder and ammonia, as they are both toxic.
  2. It would help if you never used bleaching powder on colored objects; bleaching powder can fade the colors of the colored objects.
  3. While using the bleaching powder solution, avoid throwing around objects you are working on.
  4. Take care of your hands while using the bleaching powder, as it is corrosive and can damage the skin on the hands.
  5. When using bleaching powder, add the solution and mix it with water to reduce the pH of the bleaching powder.

Also, do not use bleaching powder if the pH of the bleaching powder is as high as dilution of bleaching powder can prevent burns and damage to the skin and the body. 

There are many advantages of bleaching powder uses in the chemical, industrial, or textile industry. It is used widely in homes for cleaning and cosmetic procedures. It is used in cleaning drinking water in home filters. Though there are many uses for bleaching powder, it is highly corrosive, with a pH of 13 in its concentrated form. Hence, it would help if you used it with extra care and protection.
